On this weekend most of North America was in the grip of a frigid polar vortex. On the northwest coast of British Columbia, the sky was clear (and there were few birds on the waterfront).
With cold, clear skies over Kitimat in late January, both the waning and waxing (new) moon appeared over the mountains and the channel close to sunset. January 21 had high clouds that hid the moon, but the sky was clear again on January 22.
