June’s Strawberry Moon was spectacular in Kitimat. In the moon’s cycle of an elliptical orbit it is its lowest point in the 18.6 years cycle. That meant the moon was low over Douglas Channel making for some great photos. The June 9 photos were taken with my Sony RX10iii, the other morning photos are a mixture of my Sony Alpha 55 and my Galaxy S23.

Once again this morning June 13, the photography gods smiled and I woke up just in time at 5:30 am to catch the 96.2 % waning gibbous strawberry moon from my window. Images 1 & 2 are from my Galaxy S23 and the rest from my Alpha 55 with the 70-300mm Tamron lens.

On this weekend most of North America was in the grip of a frigid polar vortex. On the northwest coast of British Columbia, the sky was clear (and there were few birds on the waterfront).
With cold, clear skies over Kitimat in late January, both the waning and waxing (new) moon appeared over the mountains and the channel close to sunset. January 21 had high clouds that hid the moon, but the sky was clear again on January 22.
