Monday May 18 was a mostly rainy, windy day in Kitimat. Late in the evening, just after ten, I stepped out on my deck and saw through a break in the clouds, the crescent new moon and a bright star.

A quick check on the Sky Map app (link to web version) on my phone showed what I was seeing was the crescent moon and Venus, in her role as the Evening Star, setting together.

I used three cameras for this shoot. My Sony Alpha 55 with a Tamron 70-300 lens that I keep on a table near the deck to photograph garden birds. I used that for the wide shots. Then my old Sigma 150-500 zoom on my Sony A77, also always on standby for garden shots.

Then I decided that I would use my Sony 400-800 super zoom.
