While out birding on January 27, 2024, I also took images of the surrounding landscape during the atmospheric river storm. Given the “atmosphere” I converted all to black and white.

There was a polar vortex over most of western North America for the past few days, with temperatures in Kitimat from -16 C with windchills as much as -30 at times. I did not venture out into the cold. All the photographs were taken from my upstairs bedroom with my Samsung Android S23, with the raw enhancement. One exception are the photos of the sea smoke which I took with my Sony Alpha 55 with the Tamron 70 to 300 lens.

A family of ravens lives in a tree down the street from me. I have often seen what I believe to be the same pair overhead for the past several years, often just enjoying flying around. There are other ravens around, of course, and I often see them overhead or in the trees in the bush park near my house.
On July 11, while on a walk in the bush park with my camera, three ravens flew overhead. Then this young raven, flew down to a branch near me, frequently calling for its parents while they remained high above in the tree tops.
The young raven samples some witch’s hair.
Photos from the annual local photographers’ walk around Minette Bay. The deepest cold passed, leaving ice everywhere. There was a heavy overcast and occasional fog.
