A walk in the greenwood. Squirrels and pine siskins

Late morning light through the forest, June 2, 2025 (Robin Rowland)

My morning walk on Monday June 2, through the forested “gully” or “play gully” near my home was one of the reasons I love living in the northwest.  It was peaceful, different species of birds chirping and the light through the trees was amazing.

There was also wildlife.

Time for cute.  I first  managed to get a shot of a squirrel on the sidewalk. It ran into the trees. There were actually three squirrels squawking at me but all three posed for their portraits.

There were lots of birds high up in the trees, great to hear, but all but impossible to photograph. Then a pine siskin landed on a branch of an alder tree just beside the sidewalk and stayed there for about ten minutes. The alder leaves are just coming to size and in a week it would be harderer to spot the siskin.
